Currently..and Can You Help Me?

I came across this survey on Alyssa’s blog, and since I’m a huge fan of surveys…I had to partake.

Currently…

Current Book(s):

Honestly, I’m totally lacking in reading. 😦 I hate that. I love a good book, but my time has been occupied on other things right now. BUT, I did just read ‘Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child‘ & cannot recommend it enough for Moms & Moms to be! It has helped us so much. G slept NINE, yes 9!, hours the other night.

Current Music:

LOVING the song ‘Thrift Shop.’ I played it about three times on my long run – G & I did a 15K (9.3 miles) – and we knocked it out in 1 hour & 16 minutes…I definitely think listening to this song helped…I was so pumped up. Haha!

Current Guilty Pleasure:

Frozen yogurt. All the time. Love the stuff. Or this light ice cream…

SamoasIceCream

Current Nail Color:

Essie. To buy or not to buy. (it’s hard to tell, but it’s a light purple)

Current Food:

Not eating as I type this, but I ate lunch a little while ago- which was a smoothie with spinach…again with a side of Popcorners.

popcorners

They are so good! They taste like popcorn, but are in the shape of a chip. My Mom & I saw them while we were at BJ’s, the wholesale club) this weekend, so we decided to try them. SO GLAD WE DID! If you see them while you are out, I highly recommend them.

Current Favorite Show:

Modern Family. The New Normal. I have a few, but I just LOVE those two shows. I can’t get enough.

modern family

Anyone else absolutely adore Sofia Vergara?!

new normal

CAN’T. GET. ENOUGH.

Current Wish List:

The Ergo carrier.

Current needs: (this is where the ‘Can You Help Me?’ comes in)

My lovely daughter to take a bottle. Can anyone help me?? I’m still exclusively breastfeeding, just pumping too. We had her used to a bottle for the first month of her life, she took it perfectly. Then during the month of December we didn’t really give her a bottle at all. Just with the holidays, it was easier just to breast feed. Well, LESSON LEARNED. If we do have a second child, we will make sure we stick to at least a bottle a day! This will save us in the long run.

But now Gabriella REFUSES a bottle. I mean it’s BAD. She SCREAMS when we try to give her one, she gets herself so worked up…to almost where she hyperventilates. I’ve tried three types of bottles: Dr. Brown’s, Tommee Tippee, & Playtex (the one with the brown nipple, so it’s more natural). Now I have been reading about the Medela Calma, the new bottle that’s supposed to be ideal for breastfed babies…but I’m still not sure if I should spend $20 on a bottle that cannot be returned if she doesn’t like it. (and $20 is for ONE bottle) I’m willing to do it, IF I can get some kind of feedback on it. But at this point I don’t think it’s the bottle…it’s just she doesn’t want to take a bottle in general.

We have also tried other people giving her a bottle, like Craig instead of myself. Or Craig’s Mom or my Mom…just so she won’t see me and assume she is going to breast feed…and babies can smell your milk I believe up to 20 feet away. (they are like little dogs- haha!)

ANY suggestions on bottles or in general, PLEASE let me know!!!!!! PLEASE 😀

Current Bane of My Existence:

Oh goodness, I don’t know if I have anything that I can think of right now. …well, except now I’m kicking myself for not keeping up with the bottle a day :/

  1. Hi holly! I’m not a mom but I am a nanny to a seven month old girl! She was breast fed fully until her mom returned to work and then i struggled to get bottles into her! She too got very upset 😦 but eventually about a full week of trying took a bottle. She has tried them all and finally takes medela bottles and they work great! I don’t think it’s the specific ones you mentioned for $20 each just the regular ones! Good luck!

    • Hi Maria! THANK you for the feedback. Just wondering, to get her to take the bottle, how did you do it? Obviously her Mom had to go to work, so the little one HAD to take the bottle, otherwise she wouldn’t eat. But did you just keep trying all day, all week? Did she breast feed at all for the week? Or did you just strictly do bottles? (even when the parents were home with her) Sorry for all of the questions, just really appreciate any information you can give me 🙂

      • No problem glad to help 🙂 she would breast feed at night only (they work long days so I give her most of her food) so all other feedings were bottles and she hated it 😦 things I found helpful were singing to her, walking around and the best was being outside! She was totally distracted and just drank it! Obviously all bottles can’t be out there but it helped her get used to it!! Keep trying she will warm up to it!

  2. I couldn’t tell you anything about breastfeeding and bottles. I won’t pretend that I know anything about it ha… But what I do know is 15k in that time? Nice job and the somoa frozen yogurt ice cream is one of my favorites…forever LOL.

  3. Aw poor baby G 😦 That would break my heart – and I’m sure it breaks yours to see her get so upset. When I was a nanny it really just took sticking to something to get it to happen. Just keep trying and trying and don’t give up!

  4. Well, I had this same problem. I nursed my daughter exclusively, and then when it got closer to me having to go back to work, she absolutely REFUSED to take a bottle from anyone. I literally bought one of every type of bottle on the market. And no, I am not exaggerating. It was getting to the point that I thought I would have to have someone bring her to me at work so I could nurse her, because I couldn’t get her to take anything other than breast. The bottle we finally had luck with was called a Breastflow bottle. I got mine at Target, but I don’t know if they still sell them. You can order them off of amazon.com, and they aren’t too pricy. They have a double nipple, and it forces the baby to work their mouth like they do when they are nursing. They only problem I had was if I was around, Soph wanted to nurse, and didn’t want anything to do with the bottle. If I wasn’t there, she would take the bottle fine. Good luck in finding something that works! I know how difficult of a process it is to find a bottle a breastfed baby will take 🙂

    • Hi Marianna- THANK you for your help!!
I’m looking into getting those bottles. That was what the Medela ‘Calma’ bottles are supposed to do too- the double nipple.
We have Dr. Brown’s- got those because I wanted to help with gas issues. I’m HOPING we can still get her to take them…bottles are just SO expensive…and we’ve gone through so many already!
      She’s currently taking one…VERY slowly…between cries…with her Dad…so we are a work in progress 🙂

      • No problem! I actually started out with Dr. Brown’s bottles because I had such good luck with them when my first daughter Lexi was born, but Sophia just refused the bottle. I think I spent more money on bottles in the beginning than on diapers! My husband finally got Soph to take the bottle, but I had to be out of the room where she couldn’t hear me or smell me or see me. The she would choke herself sucking so hard, and cry…it was definitely an experience. I think it was harder on me than it was on her, because I hated to see her cry. Oh, one more thing…I had as hard of a time transitioning her to sippy cups as I did to bottles. My baby girl is as stubborn as they come 😀 Needless to say, I have a VERY extensive collection of bottles and sippy cups!!!!

  5. that samoas ice cream would be so dangerous around me. i love popcorners! i haven’t had any in a while. need to get to the store! xo

  6. How funny; I totally downloaded Thrift Shop this morning when I woke up & haven’t been able to stop listening to it. So addicting

  8. I wouldn’t blame yourself for the whole bottle thing. I never gave my son a bottle and at three months he went to daycare and had to have his first bottle and hee took it right away. On the other hand, my sister’s first daughter took a bottle super easy and then her second daughter refused the bottle – my sister ended up finding a nipple that was made of the same material as her paci (those little infant pacifiers) and that worked a little. She was never thrilled with a bottle though. I think all babies are different and they all go through stages. For a while I felt like my son started preferring a bottle to my breast and he didn’t have any interest in breastfeeding anymore. This made me super sad because I was already sad that I was working and then I was even sadder because he wanted a bottle over me. He eventually adjusted to both, but it was hard for a bit. Just keep trying and don’t get too discouraged!

    • Aww, I know what you mean. Everytime I think I would love to just pump & do bottle, I truly enjoy the time I share with her while nursing. It’s such an amazing bond. We have Dr. Brown’s …and I just switched to the ‘Level 2’ nipple- because it is for a heavier flow (& I have a very fast flow)- and it seems to be helping. Fingers crossed she continues to somewhat take it. We are very much a work in progress 🙂
